The Visitor
India (2014-2019)
Sometimes in life we find ourselves in places and in moments we never imagined we would be, only to realize that we would not be in these places and moments without the people and the experiences that have brought us to where we are.
Ever since I was a young girl my mother would say that I was a visitor without a home; I was constantly moving to and from different places, people, and experiences. Reflecting on my life, my mother was right; I haven’t had a “home”. I was always a visitor, moving from place to place while building relationships and spiritual connections with people. It was these people that were guiding me to happiness, to truth, and to myself.
This project began as a way for me to investigate and discover what drives a person to leave their homeland and live somewhere else during the time I decided to move to India and leave my homeland, Greece. Hoping to find these answers within myself as I captured portraits of others, The Visitors transformed into much more, irrevocably shaping my life through its exploration.
There is a certain time in our lives when we reach a particular level of mind to realize and understand why we are in this moment and how this all happened. You feel the happiness in your soul, and you just know. We are visitors in everything and in every place in our lives, and this life is the long journey that presents us with different choices to make, different possibilities to live, and countless opportunities to show us that love is always the answer.
